Recently, QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the world's leading higher education think-tank, released the 2025 (15th edition) of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, providing an independent comparative analysis of the performance of over 1,700 universities across 100 countries and regions in 55 academic disciplines and 5 broad faculty areas: Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Chinese mainland universities secured third place globally with an impressive 1,230 ranked disciplines. Among these, Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) achieved rankings in 4 key disciplines: Materials Science (401-550), Environmental Science (451-500), Mathematics (451-500), and Computer Science & Information Systems (751-850).

Introduction to Disciplines and Research at the School
Recently, the School of Mathematics and Statistics achieved several key milestones in its academic development:
In September 2003, it was granted a master's program in Applied Mathematics (a secondary discipline).
In September 2010, it obtained a first-level discipline master's program in Mathematics.
In December 2012, Applied Mathematics was recognized as a Key Characteristic Discipline of Guangdong Province.
In February 2021, Information and Computing Science was approved as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program.
In March 2022, the school established its own doctoral program in Information Processing and Optimization Computing (a secondary discipline).

In the future, our School will align with Guangdong University of Technology's "1+2+3" Disciplinary Climbing and Support Initiative, leveraging our strategic location in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to cultivate highly competent, innovative, and interdisciplinary talents in mathematics and statistics.
